Gamification App Design
What if you could re-imagine this noisy, crowded place? What would you see? Would you see more trees, less people, more bicycles, …more happiness? But above all: Could you do this reimagination?
As part of a collaborative project with another university from Slovenia, I worked on designing an AR-powered mobile app that enables users to reimagine urban spaces and share their visions of a better city. The goal was to connect real-world urban transport challenges with virtual design interventions, empowering citizens to visualize safer, more sustainable, and people-friendly city centers.
The project began with research into urban mobility, city traffic patterns, and citizen behavior. Stakeholder interviews and workshops with urban planners and residents informed the design process, revealing the key challenges posed by car traffic, limited pedestrian space, and the need for more inclusive, resilient city planning.
Based on these insights, we developed multiple interaction and interface concepts for the app, exploring how users could visualize alternative urban layouts, such as increased greenery, pedestrian zones, and bicycle networks. Concepts were evaluated for usability, engagement, and accessibility, leading to a selected design direction that prioritized intuitive AR interactions and clear visual communication.
Julian Schwazer, Marie Kunzmann, and I designed the mobile app interface and user experience, including interactive prototypes that guide users through city reimagination, submission of ideas, and sharing within the community. The UI emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and seamless integration of augmented reality elements to ensure an engaging and meaningful user experience.
Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with the Creatopia team, coordinating design, research and brainstorming workshops, and feedback sessions.
This project allowed me to combine UX + UI design, AR interaction design, and participatory urban planning, creating a digital platform that empowers citizens to imagine and shape more sustainable, enjoyable, and equitable city environments.
